BANK HOLIDAY
Public holidays or Bank Holidays are days when no work is done. Therefore, if they fall on a Saturday or Sunday they are moved forward to the following Monday. The bank holidays are: New Year’s Day, Easter (from Good Friday to Easter Monday), May Day (the Monday after the first of May), Spring Bank Holiday (the last Monday in May), Summer Bank Holiday (the last Monday in August), Christmas Day and Boxing Day. In Ireland ST. Patrick’s Day (17th March) is also a public holiday, as is the first (and not last) Monday in August. The days for the patron saints of England, Wales and Scotland are St. George (23rd April), St. David (1st March) and St. Andrew (30th November) respectively.
